Water Wednesday ‘Thank you Volunteers!’

Thank You Volunteers!

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” Author Unknown

As we prepare for the end of the year reports, I am amazed at what our volunteers have accomplished.  In just the six months that I have been here, hundreds of hard-working volunteers have made significant contributions to the Watershed’s mission of protecting the water.  This year over 5,000 guests have participated in field trips to the Watershed Center.  It would not be possible to handle this surge in numbers without the generous assistance of volunteers.  Native plants, animals, and the water have benefited from volunteers removing countless numbers of invasive plants from our forest, glade, savanna, and prairie habitats.  Volunteers have made a number of facility improvements with the construction of picnic tables, chimney swift towers, and storage lockers.  Visitors to the park find well-maintained trails due to the action of volunteers.  From lake and river clean-ups, planting trees, eliminating invasive species, to educational outreach activities, volunteers are an integral part of the Watershed.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this a very successful year!
