Stormwater Project Progress in Jordan Creek Watershed
If you have driven down Campbell Street in downtown Springfield recently you probably have noticed construction taking place. As part of the streetscape improvements, low impact stormwater (LID) projects, including three Big Urbie rain gardens will help increase stormwater infiltration and reduce runoff in the Jordan Creek watershed. The new street curb extensions have already been constructed to form the rain gardens along Campbell Street north of Mt Vernon. One of the last components of the construction project will be the placement of the rain garden soil and mulch to ensure it does not become compacted during construction.
Other stormwater improvements in the Big Urbie Campbell Streetscape project include a series of street tree planters with curb cuts to reduce runoff and water the trees. Also the Robberson Elementary, Boyd Elementary, and MSU Detention Retrofit projects will be bid this week with construction to be completed by August!
