Water Wednesday ‘Thankful for Watershed Landowners and Friends’

As we draw closer to Thanksgiving Day it is a good time to express gratitude. Our mission is to sustain and improve our drinking water resources. About 97 percent of our drinking watershed is privately owned. To effectively accomplish our mission everyone that lives, works and plays in our drinking watershed must help. All of us with the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks would like to say thank you to all of you that are landowners, advocates and friends of the watershed. When you plant native plants, connect your downspouts to a rain barrel, install water efficient appliances, apply best management practices on your land, or discuss water topics with friends you are helping to protect our water resources for future generations.

In a quote by Chief Oren Lyons, Native American Indian leader (Iroquois people, Onandaga tribe) he says, “The environment isn’t over here. The environment isn’t over there. You are the environment.” So thank you for your positive impact because you are the watershed. Happy Thanksgiving!
