Improve waterways One Bottle at a Time
According to a recent Forbes article, globally humans buy a million plastic bottles per minute and 91% of that plastic is not recycled. Many of those plastic bottles can end up in our waterways. During my time with Watershed Committee, I have participated in several stream and lake cleanups in the Springfield area. The piece of litter that is most frequently picked-up during those cleanups is plastic drink bottles from soda and water.
A plastic drink bottle is something we use for only a few minutes. Could we stop using plastic drink bottles and if we do use them make sure we recycle them afterwards? This one small change could have a huge positive impact on our local waterways!
