Local watershed group invites contractors to bid on James River streambank stabilization
Springfield, MO – The Watershed Committee of the Ozarks (Watershed) in partnership with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources invites local contractors to bid on a James River streambank stabilization project. Sediments from eroding streambanks are nonpoint source pollutants that impair waterways and drinking water sources. The goals of this project are 1) stabilization of a section of highly eroded streambank and 2) restoration of adjacent vegetation.
Work at the project site will occur on the eroding banks and in-stream, and will include grading, excavation, filling, and placing 12″ to 24″ rock. Lost streambank will be converted to a restoration area and planted with native vegetation. Rock embankments will be up to 7 feet in height and up to 600 feet long. The necessary permits for the stream work have been obtained for the project including the USACE Section 404 Nationwide Permit and a Greene County Floodplain Development Permit. The site is located at the 700-block of S. Farm Road 255, Rogersville, MO 65742. The streambank has been eroding rapidly in recent years, and it is recommended that all potential bidders view the current condition of the streambank before submitting a bid. The site is on private property with restricted access. A pre-bid site visit is scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 10am.
