I consider myself beyond lucky to work with volunteers. In my slightly biased opinion, volunteers are the best people. They take time away from their personal schedules and dedicate that time to improving the world around them, and in general, volunteers tend to be positive, driven, intelligent, and oh so kind-hearted. Through my work, I can honestly say that I’ve met some of the world’s most wonderful people.
One such person is Shelby Palmer. Shelby has been volunteering with WCO since August of 2018. She is a current student at Missouri State University where she majors in biology and runs distance on the Track and Field team. In addition, she’s a lifelong birder with hopes of becoming an ornithologist. Each and every day Shelby shows up with a smile and actively looks for ways to make WCO and Valley Water Mill Park better. She has an outstanding attitude and an incredible thirst for knowledge. These qualities, along with her consistent focus on teamwork, make her an absolute joy to work with.
Shelby has blown us away with her dedication to our organization and her passion for our mission, and we are so lucky to have her on our team. This is why she was named our 2019 Volunteer of the Year! Congratulations Shelby!
