The Watershed Committee is hiring a Watershed Natives Nursery Manager. This is a part-time, term position.
The Watershed Natives program was established to meet the growing demand for native plants in both
restoration efforts and the retail market. The initial grant funding will provide for the installation of a hoop
house and other infrastructure on the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds property. The Nursery Manager will have
an office space at the Fairgrounds with the primary responsibility to oversee these facilities to produce
high quality native plants. Watershed staff, students from nearby Hillcrest High School, and volunteers will
provide additional support and labor to ensure a successful operation. Training and integrating the students and volunteers will be a key component in the long-term success of the Watershed Natives program.
Position Summary
The Watershed Natives Nursery Manager position is a unique opportunity to develop and enhance your
nursery skills while having a positive impact on the ecology of southwest Missouri. In our inaugural year,
hundreds of native plants were distributed throughout the Ozarks. Most of these plants were started from
seeds with the help of students and volunteers. The growth potential of this program is tremendous with
the right person taking a leadership role. We are seeking an individual with a unique skill set that is capable
of growing both native plants and a fledgling nursery program. This program relies on our ability to leverage both volunteers and students in the plant production process. Individuals interested in this position
must be interested in working closely with the public and be willing to lead educational programs related
to agriculture and horticulture.
