Watershed Conservation Corps Backpacks the Buffalo River to find Invasives

WCC Works with National Parks to find Tree of Heaven

Watershed staff joined Watershed Conservation Corps leaders on an overnight backpacking trip on the Buffalo River!

The WCC crew recently embarked on a journey into the Buffalo Wilderness to scout for Tree of Heaven for their partnership with the National Park Service.

This invasive species loves to live along the riverways, so to reach the impacted area, the crew followed a system of horse trails into the remote wilderness that holds a rich history.

The beautiful landscape was once a booming mining area, and some evidence still remains. Among this evidence is a historic cemetery and the remains of old vehicles near what was supposedly a schoolhouse. Find more information on the area here.

Along the way our crew also spotted Chinquapin oaks, luscious mushrooms, muscadines (wild grapes), and even evidence of feral hogs. #ViewsfromWatershedCrews
