Healthy Soils and Waters
As part of our Upper Little Sac 319 Grant, Mr. Klark Bohling with the Missouri Rural Water Association (MRWA) brought a rainfall simulator to Hillcrest High School science classes on Nov. 29th, 2023.
Rainfall simulators demonstrate the importance of healthy soil for our water resources. It compares runoff and erosion in land with various management practices: tilled soil with low crop diversity, no-till soil with cover crops, highly grazed and rotationally grazed pastures. This activity fits right in with the Environmental Career Pathway curriculum, as students are learning about agricultural best management practices.
